The curious case of Rajinikanth

March 17, 2009

rajini

I’m a BIG fan of Superstar Rajinikanth.How I wish they get him to play his age though.

Or , as he says himself , in one of his songs : “Naa meese vechcha kozhandheyappa*“?!

Update : * Translated (retaining  local flavour), that reads “I am moustache-keeping baby, my man !”

    methinks that your already-tenuous grip of “reality” is now almost gone. that is good!! sanity is for the birds.

    or something.

    “methinks that your already-tenuous grip of “reality” ….” A ah ah ah, very funny and well said! I came here thru a link provided by Brainstuck on twitter, although my knowledge of Indian cinema is negligible. I recently saw Millionaire. I know, it is Hollywood, but it seems like Bollywood. I loved it.
    Ciao

    Nice work, just a minor qualm. The “1997” image of Rajinikanth is fmost likely from “pedda rayudu” – the telugu remake of “naattamai” where Rajini plays Vijayakumar’s (periya nattamai, ergo pedda rayudu) role. “Arunachalam” did not have an older Rajinikanth in it. Altogether trivial information, I agree. But as one fan to another (albeit BIG), this is potentially scandalous :-D.

    All hail Gary Larson.

      @Rincewind:
      Good catch.
      I’m actually burying my head in the sand even as you read this 🙂 Woe’s upon me – they’ll blackist my blog in all the Fan Associations, what’ll I do for my first-day-first-show ticket ? ( which is the whole point of this blog anyway ?)
      Here’s my defence, yuvar onour. I haven’t seen Rajini’s Telugu movies ( IMDB tells me he actually dies in Pedda Rayudu.WTF?). And Arunachalam does feature an older Rajini – the millionaire deddy who appears in flashbacks, the videotape playback scene and smiles benevolently from the huge painting.And he looks exactly like in the picture I’ve used.

        @Iyer….firstly…semma mattrrr maachcchii!

        *attempts to defend iyer’s now-fragile onor from accusatory YUVAR ONOR!*

        Arunachalam had a a Rajini Sugadaddy who left the lucre for the ‘enger'(??) rajini to earn.. and the image is of that same to same Sugadaddy vonly…

        And lest we forget…our superstar has now been digitized and immortalized…wouldn’t it weird to see an ANIMATED superstar splitting one bullet into two???? I mean…it would just take away all that sense of disconnect from reality associated with a sivaji/padaiyappa/muthu/baasha/yejaman/arunachalam/RAJADHI RAJA, etc….and put him in a place where he could do all his super things in a ‘real’ sense?? ………..uggh…i wouldn’t be able to digest it….

        I’m guessing will make frank miller tear up his graphic novels in awe of this anime-ated superhero…

    Give me some space, I need to bury my head too. “Arunachalam” did have the older Rajini and my excuse is that Rajini played the role so well that until today I was under the assumption it was actually Kambar Jayaraman.

    Aha! One more, izzit? Well done, fantastico. Just watched Sivaji-The Boss a couple of days ago. Was feeling a little bit weird for actress opposite the Superstar. On account of age imbalance. Ha ha.
    And why is Chandra bringing birds into this? Does he not know it is a touchy subject for me? *flashback to K C Das*shudder*

    We want him to stay 40 forever. Neither too young or too old.

    The close-ups are getting harder to bear nowadays. 😦
