ScatNip ! Raghav Sreyas

Last week, I put together this five-minute slideshow of photographs shot by my friend Raghav Sreyas (1973 – 2008) , set to his music.
Raghav was a very close friend. The slideshow has ethereal black-and-white photographs of urban Bangalore (Koshy’s, Premier Bookshop) set to a haunting melody that was co-composed by Raghav.
In the song, you can hear Raghav performing his improvised form of Konnakol, the ancient South Indian art of vocal percussion. Konnakol is like scat-singing in Jazz . If you’ve never heard it before (or even if you have) I urge you to listen to Raghav’s unique rendition of it .It is sure to leave you amazed.

The singer is Aditi Upadhya. The music was composed by Raghav Sreyas and Sumathi.
saw again, i got it.. .. images + music created a mood .. i was into the spectrum of images than the titles….
Hi, you have made it well, to bring back his photographs and his voice alive..his voice rendering in Konnakol style for this is very intense , so is the singers voice….Though I knew Raghav very little, but he did amazing work.. thank you
Well done, Jai-saar. Didn’t know Raghav well except for a few meetings at Koshy’s but this slideshow-video was very telling. Lovely music. Also didn’t know about Raghav’s Konnakal angle at all. And this video is really well done.
The video is very emotive, and Raghav seems like he was a wonderfully talented person.
The pictures of Phoenix Atelier taken by Raghav are some of the best I have ever seen.. Kudos for the very well-done, emotional video..
Good work Jai. Good Ol kanna will always be remembered. I always admired his talent with rhythm, photography, mimicry (not a very nice word but then again…he was the best), art, everything. Never EVER a dull moment when he was around. People always laughed and smiled when they were around him. My best moments in bangalore were with kanna, and I’ll never forget them.

The video was so beautiful. I had seen some of the photos of the old jail but did not know the photographer who had clicked them. Thanks for introducing me to the world of Raghav Shreyas.
