If You Come Today : the comic

March 2, 2010

This story is set in an alternate history Bangalore of the late 1970s.

It’s a cocktail of a ‘million memories’, laced with generous amounts of kitsch, hyperbole and vernacular references.

Please take your grammar/spelling/historical-accuracy hats off before you proceed. And watch each panel carefully; I’ve hidden some really hard-to-find easter eggs in there. (If you find that some of the writing’s too small, just click on the image. That’ll load the entire page into your browser and you can then zoom in. Note: there are four pages in all.) Thank you.

Chapter 1 : The Hunt

Chapter 2: New Modran Hotel

  20. March 2, 2010 3:05 pm

I LOVE “S.V. Supermani.” That is, apart from generally beaming upon the whole cartoon.

However, at the risk of being pedantic, isn’t it “Million drums beat in my heart”? Howda? Don’t tell me I have been belting it out all wrong all this time.

    • March 4, 2010 8:07 am

Ah , a purist πŸ™‚ You are correct, it IS ‘a million drums’. (And I’m aware of this). It’s just that the lyrics I’ve used go better with the plot…

too good Jai. mixing the jem aaf a saang with your toons is a grraat idea i say :). “Hai Noty” was too good, BKS Iyengar’s caricature is excellent. Had a good laugh & relieved the memorable Dr. Raj song :).

History should be taught this way! Let all the history textbooks of Karnataka state be re-written by … Jai Iyengar forthwith. He is entertaining, educating, and something else. But leave geography textbooks alone…

    … for the nonce.

Someone suggested you (Iyengar) publish this blog and all. I also think so. Just remember to give me first signed copy (i will pay for the book, of course).

    Cheers.

    The classic foldable chair!
The fan regulator, with its vents for heated resistors…

    Panel2:
The famous fire hydrats, jolly good for lazing around…. and I never saw it put into its supposed purpose!
Pandaribai and the nail, which the auto driver bellows out.. maybe we should take it offline!
Also thougth that the rear engine was a bit too ‘modran’ for the times… (related this to the 1977 pass-outs)
The ‘Kick Kick Kick Kick…’; sung to the tune of ”Ah Tick Tick….’?
